CHARACTER NAME: Sora
CANON: Kingdom Hearts
CANON POINT: Post KH3
AGE: 15, going on 16
HISTORY: Wiki is long.
VICES & VIRTUES:

Charity: Sora is one of those giving people. He’s the kind of person that would give the shirt off of his back to help a stranger even if it was the dead of winter. He gives his time and energy to help anyone that’s asked, some people that don’t want it, and for his friends he will sacrifice everything to help them and see them happy no matter the cost. From using a keyblade to open his own heart to save Kairi to his knowingly letting his memories be erased to follow Riku then later save Naminé to stretching out his very essence to bring back his friends from death repeatedly until there was simply nothing left of him, he’s given up literally everything he can for everyone around him. And the worst part is he did it with a smile.

Humility: Sora does a really good job of masking his self-doubt. A really, really good job. Whenever he feels doubt or emotional pain, he grins and bears it because he doesn’t want to cause others to feel fearful or depressed. Fear and sorrow in the hearts of others is what the Heartless are attracted to or at least that’s how it was explained to a young Sora during his moment of doubt and confusion and he was told to smile through it for the wellbeing of the Keyblade that he bears if he wanted to save his friends. As a result of this and the following years of continual fighting off the forces of Darkness, Sora has internalized this in an unexpected way. He truly believes that without his friends there to lend him strength, he’s useless and weak. That smile he wears that encourages others to never give up and to keep fighting, he can’t see in himself which is an irony like no other. He needs his friends to be able to be a hero or after a while the burden of all the loss and pain he’s lived through sets in, leaving him wondering what business he has claiming to fight for good at all.

Greed: His particular greed isn’t the most traditional sort. Yes, when he gets an opportunity to live out his dream of being a pirate, he lets himself get swept up in the stereotypical treasure hunting silliness, so much so that he chased after a treasure chest regardless of the fact that his companions pointed out the obvious trap it was which he even acknowledged himself and dragged them into a needless fight. But Sora’s vice here ties back to his humility in that he’s always greedy for friendship and looks to make as many friends as possible on any world he visits. That fear of being alone causes him to constantly seek out other people to find some kind of validation through aiding them with whatever problem they may have, no matter how small or large it may be. His social circle is ever expanding even if he will only ever meet and interact with someone once, he will still count them as a friend and add them to his ever growing list. He routinely attempts to make friends with the first people he meets anywhere he goes. Inviting himself into their issues regardless of whether he understands what it is or not. He would argue that because the Heartless or Nobodies were involved then yes, he should have. But in a few instances, he wasn’t needed. Hercules saved the day without needing Sora’s aid. The Beast would have found Belle relatively easily especially since all Sora had at the time was a stick as a weapon, and he had to be saved from himself during his Mark of Mastery exam because he felt alone and trapped in his own dreams by Young Xehanort.

Wrath: He’s also guilty of wrath at times. Generally, Sora tries to be a relaxed and goofy kid. He tries not to take things too seriously unless the situation calls for it and little upsets won’t bother him too much but when a situation is drawn out and he can’t fix it in some way as soon as he learns of it, he lets that frustration slowly build up until he finally snaps and takes that frustration out on whomever happens to be with him at the time verbally. Unless the person happens to be someone he considers an enemy and they’ve provoked him, in which case he will charge ahead to fight them usually in a blind rage that can lead him into a dangerous situation. A prime example of this is Sora’s time in Castle Oblivion where the higher one traveled into its spires, the more of their memories they lost. Members of Organization XIII used this to lure and trap Sora and his companions inside the castle then goaded Sora into racing ever higher with taunts about his fading memories and inability to recall his friends despite his claims of how important they were to him, frustrating him deeply. When Donald and Goofy expressed a hesitation in continuing deeper until they could figure out what was happening, a frustrated Sora snapped angry at his companions for being cowardly and left them behind to sort themselves out while he continued to play into the hands of his enemies instead of listening to reason and taking the time to try and solve the issue.

SUITABILITY: He might be on the younger side of things but Sora has seen and done more in the last three years of his life (and I’m being generous here because he did spent a year in suspended animation while his memories were put back together) than most people managed to do in their entire lives. A lot of that has been fighting a war that he was never properly prepared for and though we do get to see moments where he’s simply enjoying being himself, he’s never had time to really sit and feel the consequences of his actions and the choices he’s made in the long time. He can be impulsive and sometimes just goes with the will of the group even if he’s not completely sold on the course of action. It would be interesting to see how he could affect and be affected by the influence in control of the various districts. To see him grow up a little as he makes choices for himself that are not a result of groupthink or if he’d fall into the same habits and find himself palling around with a new group and what kind of results those people would have upon him, positive or negative. If his age is considered too young, I don’t think it would be too much of a stretch to raise his age a little higher as it’s most likely that he will be aged up another year by the time a new installment of his canon is released. (Or at least I would dang well hope so, it’s already been forever!)

POWERS: All powers and abilities are adjustable and nullified as required.

Summon Keyblade - Due to his connection with the Kingdom Key, Sora has the ability to summon it to his hand from seemingly thin air and return it there when he no longer requires it. Most likely it resides in his heart and he is unaware of this fact.

Combat Ready - The boy has been fighting almost non-stop for a while now and it is pretty safe to assume that he is more competent with a sword than the average teenager his age would or should be. He also has developed some tactical sense for combat as well, though he still has more that he could learn as he gets older.

Magic Capabilities - Because of his connection to the Keyblade, Sora has the capabilities to learn and use various elemental and healing spells, should they be available.

Surprisingly Durable - I’m almost convinced that Sora is at least partially made out of some kind of rubber material because this kid takes very large and dangerous falls and crash landings throughout the game series and just kind of walks it off. He’s also been involved in many harsh and difficult fights and come out of them bruised, battered and in a few cases, in very rough shape but he’s still come out of them more or less intact and breathing which either means he’s still blessed by that indestructibility that only the very young have or he is more durable than the average person. It’s probably the latter but older folks may confuse it for the former.

Speedy - He’s been shown as fast enough to run up walls and buildings when properly motivated to and parry quick slash attacks by foes that are arguably much better and more experienced swordsmen than him. (eg. Cloud and Sephiroth, his own best friend Riku). He’s even deflected lightning blasts directed at him but that’s just silly and also not real lightning. Pretty sure mother nature would still win if she squared off with the pipsqueak.

Stronger Than He Looks - I’m certainly not going to claim he has superhero level strength but he is able to go toe-to-toe over multiple rounds of combat with several dangerously strong enemies and creatures sometimes triple his size and keep pace with them while his allies are fighting elsewhere. He wouldn’t be afraid of getting jumped in a dark alley at least, or probably even consider them dangerous until he got himself jumped in a dark alley. And even then, there’s a good chance he still won’t consider them dangerous though he would be more cautious.

Friendship - But all of these powers pale in comparison to Sora’s strongest ability. That’s right. The Power of Friendship. His biggest attribute is his heart and his ability to empathize with the emotions of others to form bonds and friendships with them. He’s helpful, friendly and a bit of a busybody to a fault as the section on Charity and Greed have implied. As much as they can be his weaknesses, his friendships are also his greatest strength as his friends are the reason he fights so hard to protect them and their happiness. He’s even turned enemies into allies by being able to recognize and empathize with their pain and loneliness. Extending his hand to them because he believes that deep down, they are as good of a person as he is and they deserve a chance at finding their happy ending too.
